Land Use Planning

The process of planning a scientific and orderly allocation of land, community resources, facilities, and services with a view to maintaining and improving the physical environment and economic and social conditions of the community.

It is a process about how decisions are made on where houses, parks, and schools will be built and how infrastructure and other essential services will be provided.

The Land Use Plan is also intended to provide guidance to FDFN in terms of the programs and policies it will enact in relation to key issues such as housing, agriculture, resource extraction, economic development, and environmental protection.
Why is land use planning important?
The overall goal is to ensure sustainability.

LUP is important for affirming rights, for establishing community values on the development of a First Nation’s lands, and in determining the future use of its natural resources.

The Flying Dust plan will determine the most sustainable uses of FDFN land and ensure appropriate land use for the FDFN’s own identity , priorities, and values.
Flying Dust First Nation Goals
  1. Establish a vision for how the community intends to grow/ develop over the next 20 years.
  2. Set goals, objectives, and priorities for how that vision will be achieved
  3. Regulate the type, location, and intensity of future development; and
  4. Create an Implementation plan to ensure success of the Land Use Plan.
